Eine betörende Mischung aus dem Folkrock der frühen 70er Jahre, dem magischen Paganfolk von Künstlern wie Devendra Banhart und der ländlichen Mystik von Iron and Wine. Faszinierend.
Aufgewachsen ist Marissa Nadler in einer Kleinstadt in Massachusetts. Vielleicht sind die oft brutal kalten Winter in ihrer Heimat zum Teil dafür verantwortlich, dass ihre Musik sich mehr mit der dunkeln, melancholischen Seite der Dinge auseinandersetzt.
Lokale Bekanntheit erlangte sie durch berührende Coverversionen. Neil Youngs „Cortez the Killer“ konnte sie eine neue Facette abgewinnen, ihre Version von „Ballad to an Amber Lady“ (Pearls Before Swine) für eine von Kritikern hoch gelobte Compilation verschaffte ihr eine gewisse Underground Reputation.
2004 und 2005 erschienen zwei Homerecordings.
Pitchfork, die für Musikfans sicher bedeutendste internationale Webseite, beschrieb die Musik folgendermaßen: "a landscape you may want to get lost in for a century or two", und Wire schrieb schlicht: "a beauty".
In England gab sich der Guardian euphorisch: "uncommonly lovely... hard to get out of your head".
Wikipedia meint: “Excelling at a Fahey-esque fingerpicking technique, she plays homage to some of the great early American blues players. The Basho-like 12-string guitar movements are also quite lovely.”
Im Vorjahr erschien nun Nadlers bisher drittes Album "Songs III Bird On the Water“, das sie nun erstmals solo in Österreich vorstellt.

The Violent Years dwell in deepest southern Norway. Their songs are made of an anxious bitter sweet unrequited Love inspired by a contrasting backdrop of natural beauty and the highest rate of depression in the country. The sound, though occationally soft and romantic, are intense & apocalyptic - toring through reams of blues, dark folk and americana licks, and has often been accused of invoking the haunting spirits of artists such as the late Joy Division, Songs:Ohia, Sixteen Horsepower and Nick Cave.
Previously The Violent Years have done clubs and festivals in Norway and Europe, amongst PopKomm/Berlin 2007 and supporting american doom-folk syndicate Wovenhand. Their debutalbum is due to be released march 2008.
